The Radeon HD 4890 was a performance-segment graphics card by ATI, launched on April 2nd, 2009. Built on the 55 nm process, and based on the RV790 graphics processor, in its RV790 XT variant, the card supports DirectX 10.1. Since Radeon HD 4890 does not support DirectX 11 or DirectX 12, it might not be able to run all the latest games. The RV790 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 282 mm² and 959 million transistors. It features 800 shading units, 40 texture mapping units, and 16 ROPs. ATI has paired 1,024 MB GDDR5 memory with the Radeon HD 4890, which are connected using a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 850 MHz, memory is running at 975 MHz (3.9 Gbps effective).
Being a dual-slot card, the ATI Radeon HD 4890 draws power from 2x 6-pin power connectors, with power draw rated at 190 W maximum. Display outputs include: 2x DVI, 1x S-Video. Radeon HD 4890 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 interface. The card's dimensions are 241 mm x 111 mm x 40 mm, and it features a dual-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 249 US Dollars.
